Is there any place in country where energy should not be developed? I was thinking fossil fuels, but I guess we can include solar, wind, etc...

Designated wilderness areas would be my first thought. Energy is great, but if everyone just made a few sacrifices we wouldn't have to sacrifice the wildness of some of these areas.
My hunting/work buddy and I talk about this stuff alot and our general consensus is that we need to develop solar (according to him, as solar was first being developed in the late 60's and into the 70's the big oil put the whammys on it by buying up patents and basically freezing them, slowing developement substantially) and obviously get a more effecient motor/fuel combo for vehicles.
Does anyone know much about ethanol? Why isn't it used more? Seems like the way to go as we can make it out of crops that we already have. Why hasn't it taken off? Likely Big Oil is the answer to that question.
Schweitzer says he is going to get all these alternative energy plans on their feet in Montana, so we shall see.

I remember Paul Harvey talking about a President that had started to gear up this nation in that direction, spent a ton of money on ethanol plants and production, then I think he said some thing about the interest or big business paid every one off to fall from this plan.
The plants were disassembled and life went back into the direction we see today.
The story was told some 10-12 years ago and it had to do with one of the presidents around one of the world wars.
Others on the board may be able to expound on this story in more detail.
I just thought it was interesting at the time, this stuff had been implemented some 75 years ago, and then shut down and erased as if it had never happened...

Wouldn't doubt it. People who have a lot of money in fossil fuels sure dont want to see it go by the wayside anytime soon. And, they have enough money to make sure it doesn't. Then, when the wells go dry (not too distant future) they will take their money and run with us sitting on empty tanks (hopefully in elk country somewhere!).
