What is the Oldest Rifle You Actually Hunt Big Game with ?

Mine is a pre 64 standard weight model 70 Winchester made in 1953 in .270 with a Weaver fixed 6x power scope.

Also hunt with a FN Belgium commercial Mauser with no serial #. Any idea how old that might be?

A marlin Model 36-A-DL 30-30 made in 1945. My grandfather bought used it in the late 50’s. It has killed scores of deer, and has probably been used by two dozen people to kill a deer, many of them their first. My son has added about a dozen deer to its tally the last 3 years.

A Rem 600, 308. Probably made in '66, or'67 since there were only 80,944 made between '64-'67 and mine is in the 80,200 range.

But the oldest weapon I still use is a Stevens 22/410 O/U built in the late 30's, early 40's.(later developed into the 24V). Can't hit Crap with the 22, but the 410 is fun for tree rats & bunnies ! I still use it to keep my Grandpa & Dad from lazing around their resting place and get some fresh air out in the boonies.

I regularly use 2:

1. Beretta A300 (made in 1967) 12ga that my grandfather gave me. It is the shotgun that I learned to shoot birds with and has a very high round count. Still goes with me on every dove hunt.

2. S&W 1500 in 270 (made in 1982) that my dad gave me. It was his hunting rifle for years and he gave it to me when I was about 13. It has killed countless deer and hogs. I made the mistake of running a scope down the barrel. It has significant pitting, but continues to shoot well. I had it out at the range last week and shot a .38 MOA group with 130gr Hornady IL handload.

I Have a model 54 in 30-06, Good Heavens is that a milestone rifle. Being so old my eyes really do not do well with peep sites anymore. That said, I simply take it to the range and recall the bygone days of my youth. I had a cabin four miles from the nearest paved road in western mountains. I lived frontier life with that rifle 50 years ago.

I have grandpa's old Stevens 22 single.1927. My go to bunny,rat ,chipmunk getter that I can barely get a bunny with anymore.
Did have 8mm Mauser,1941 that I took several deer and pigs with. Sniper rifle w/adj sights. Was a killer,literally. Traded it for a Ford PU & $1500 in 1979. Good deal for me at the time. I bought my 700 30-06 with some of the cash too,that is my hunting rifle still.

I have quite a few rifles over 100 yrs old that I hunt with. I think the oldest I currently own is a 140 yr old Ballard.

The oldest I have owned and hunted with (but no longer have) was a Joseph Lang double rifle at about 190 yrs old.

I don't really consider a 70 yr old Marlin 39a as old. It is my most modern squirrel rifle.

I use 2 mausers built in the early 1940s a lot. 1 has been reworked into a custom 7x57 and the 9.3x57 has its original finish and barrel. I also have a remington rolling block 50-70 that was built in 1867, but it only comes out occasionally.

I have and use pretty much the same gun. My grandma bought it for grandpa in 52. I did replace the scope when the crosshairs started creeping to the left. It is now topped with a Leupold.

Gewehr 1898 Mauser 8mm Mauser my grandfather brought home from World War II. My dad shot his first deer with that rifle on a big whitetail buck in the Missouri Breaks of Montana. I have not shot anything with it.

Winchester Model 1892 in 25-20 WCF. Shot a few rabbits with it but no big-game.

Remington Model 10-A 12 ga shotgun. Shot a few birds with it.

Winchester Model 1873 in 38-40 WCF. Shot one deer with it.

Remington MOdel 572 Fieldmaster .22 LR. Lots of gophers and rabbits have fallen to this rifle. My son has it now.

Remington 41P 22 LR Shot lots of gophers and rabbits with that old single-shot. My father gave that to me as my first rifle when I was 10 years old. My son has it now.

Wards Western Field - 20 ga. - Shot some grouse with this old sweetheart. My son's now.

Remington Model 600 - Montana Territorial Centennial & 75th year of Statehood - Made in 1964 - 6mm Remington. This was my first big-game rifle and has taken a LOT of coyotes, gophers, antelope and deer. It is my son's now.

Ruger 1B single-shot 6mm Remington. Made In The 200th Year of American Liberty - 1976. Gophers, coyotes, antelope, deer, and an elk.

1870's vintage Mortimer 450 3 1/4" BPE. It's not a mountain gun, but it's fun in a stand/blind. I've only taken whitetail with it, but hope to tote it around on an elk hunt. 110 grains of 3fg black powder & a Hornady 350 grain round nose at 1650 fps is fun shooting.
