They’ll give you far better traction on the rocks. I’ve taken a dunking in a number of rivers. It sucks.

Felt used to be the standard. My last pair I bought rubber with carbide studs. Felt soles will be a dinosaur very soon.
Studs make all the difference on slimy river rock. I can’t believe I ever lived without them.
 
I really enjoy Simms. I have tried a few times to find alternatives but they always leak! Each time I went limping back to Simms! Record was a pair of Reddington wading pants which lasted 2 trips. I hike A LOT in the Simms and they really hold up, great warranty program as well.

I want to say I remember hearing something good about Dryft waders. I included a link below for something to look into, don’t take it as a recommendation though.
