Virginia Gun Grab

Actually used all the time by states. Most states during natural disasters use the National Guard for anti-looting, evacuations and those types of functions. They are also used as additional security at large scale events (Olympics).
I understand and am aware. My comments were more focused on the "confiscation" role of law enforcement, of which I'm unaware of National Guard being called out by a governor for such law enforcement actions.

In fact, way back when, my Guard unit was called out to work with the warden and assistant warden of Montana State Prison in running the prison while state employees (corrections officers and others) were on strike. I was also activated and flew missions during floods and forest fires, as well as drug interdiction missions flying sheriff office and border patrol personnel. Those missions could be construed as law enforcement, but are a far cry from the bad idea law enforcement mission of entering the home of a neighbor or relative to confiscate their AR-15.

The use of the National Guard in direct Law enforcement is unusual, but has been done. Sometimes disastrously. Think Kent State.

Unfortunately the more I read about the situation, the more it appears to be deliberate pot stirring and misdirection. I hope the Virginia voters are truly paying attention and the 2A supporters don't provide the current Virginia legislature with more ammunition.

As the Montana Legislature considers going to annual sessions instead of ninety days every two years, the old proposal has once again come up suggesting they meet two days every ninety years.

The threat of the governor to use the National Guard would not fly as the Posse Comitatus Act prohibits use of military for law enforcement. It's just a bad idea on the face of it anyhow.
That act only applies to Federal Army and Air Force. National Guards both ground and air are exempt from its rules.

I was hoping they would pass it, try to enforce it and the chips fall where the chips fall. Liberty Tree, water, whatever the saying is.

no sense delaying the inevitable.

how on earth can any sane and reasonable person be a democrat????
I am not a democrat, but let's be clear, there are plenty of legitimate reasons to be a democrat. For example, you prefer strong environmental standards, you want to preserve individual's rights to sue product manufactures that cause harm, you want to increase funding of local public schools, you support a woman's right to choose, you think wall street needs strong oversight, you support NPR and PBS, you believe in a progressive income tax system, you support gay marriage, you support affirmative action, you don't support the transfer of federal lands to western states, etc etc etc. I can make a similar list for republicans, libertarians, socialists, communists, progressives and populists. If you can't then you haven't learned enough to criticize anyone. Intellectually rigorous and productive disagreement starts with respectful understanding of the views of the "other side". Until Americans can start getting this, our public discourse will continue to go down the crapper.

The guard, and law enforcement that were called and volunteered for duty in the aftermath of Katrina were ordered to confiscate weapons from individuals that were leaving the flood zone with their belongings, individuals that were protecting their property and those protecting themselves. Now many refused to carry out that ordered by the gov. and the mayor of New Orleans, but their were some that followed and many citizens lost their firearms or were rendered useless after months in the back of wet dry vans. The incident went to court and the state ordered to return firearms, only problem was piss poor records were kept. The biggest catastrophe that occurred with this completely unconstitutional order was no one was charged and successfully prosecuted and sent to jail over this. Not to mention the press showed absolutely no interest in it. Now if it was a restriction on abortion or the first ammendment we would have heard about it for a yr. Many say they won't come for our weapons, but history showed they do and can get away for it, and no one raised the BS flag when the order was given. And they wonder why we don't trust the press when they should have been on this like white on rice.

Yep. A co-worker and I talked about this very thing today. Good way to sum it up. mtmuley

Its the whole anti constitution/2nd amendment, pro illegal(sanctuary city), pro baby killing, pro socialism, their pro impeachment, their embrace of more than 2 genders, their anti Christian attitude and many more reasons. If they reversed or abandoned all of those stances, they would be tolerable but the list of celebrities that are the face of the dems and their beliefs and attitudes (they exemplify the party and showcase it) turns me off. That and look at all the cities they have destroyed with their policies tells me they are simply bad for America. Ive lived through 10 presidents. All of the Democrat's ones were terrible and really harmed the nation. but this thread is about how terrible the dems are for the constitution and the 2nd amendment. That is a self evident truth that cannot be argued.

I rest my case. You are choosing to remain part of the problem. Not because you disagree, but because of how you are disagreeing.

Something something for evil to persist good men do nothing. something something. Sitting back and ignoring and not motioning how they are destroying America is not in me. Im too old and have seen it happen at their hands. This cannot be denied.

I have a good friend who is a pastor and a democrat who would make the case that those sitting back and not addressing poverty and inequality (in his view republicans) are the ones sitting by and allowing evil to persist. Your whole position is that you are right and "they" are evil and these truths can't be denied because you somehow own the truth. Again, thanks for demonstrating the very point I was making.

Very well said VikingsGuy. It seems like today its all black and white. If you like the dems you're going to hell and hate Christianity and if you like the republicans you hate people. There is no in between for most people any more.

Also, addressing Stay Sharp, separation between Church and State man. Also, your freedom of religion isn't worth more than anyone else freedom of religion. The bill of rights was written to protect everyone, not just those in your religion (in this case Christianity). In the eyes of the law there is no difference between your religion, and the church of flying spaghetti monster. Ramen!

I laughed. Sorry about you team by the way. Perhaps someday.

Agreed with posts from above. Civility would be a good start for the country. Remember when we actually talked to one another politely? The younger generation doesn't. Civility needs to be taught at home, encouraged in public. It's okay to have different viewpoints, and to discuss them without being ready to kill each other. Nearly everyone is failing at teaching the younger generation how to act, from the politicians down to the parents.

Back to the OP, hoping for everyone's safety at the protest and that cooler heads prevail

The younger generation can't talk politely because they don't talk. They text, Snapchat, and tic toc, but don't converse with each other the way we did.......now get off my lawn, LMAO
