Utah 2012 Big Game Guidebook

Time to start planning for 2012. Several changes to be aware of.

1) Deer change from 5 regions to 29 units to allow enhanced herd management for buck/doe ratio. Our herds are struggling in many area.

2) New bison unit in the Book Cliffs located in eastern Utah. How cool is it that our bison herds are growing into new areas.

My wish list for 2012 is limited elk and desert sheep. Elk could happen because I now have 9 points but sheep would be akin to winning the lottery. I can wish. If not I'll have fun with general season elk and perhaps deer.

Sur ewish you had an idea of how many permits before you have to apply. I would like to do a party antelope hunt but don't know what zones have more than one tag.

This might be helpful. 2011 odds report with the number of tags from last year. Just confirm the 2011 and 2012 unit numbers are the same. It would be nice to know how many tags before you apply but I understand they need to count herds after the winter and I like knowing asap if you draw.

A couple tricks to consider.

1) apply for archery or muzzy tags. Odds are better.
2) look at the CWMU hunts. Private landowners who grant access in exchange for permits they can sale. I would suggest you check references before you apply. Many are great but there have been bad operators who ruin what should be a great experience.

We love Utah-East otherwise known as Colorado almost as much as we love Utah-North otherwise known as Idaho.

We do have lots of Monster Muley fans in Utah. They won't let me join since I don't own a F-350 Powerstroke and my wife doesn't have bleached blond hair with surgical enhancements. Good thing about the internet is everyone can find people like them.

about pee'd myself reading this...thought that was only a eastern thing, the more stickers in your window the better
