MR released their updated Metcalf pack last year, and I’m wondering if anyone here has long-term feedback. When I looked at one in the store, the padding felt plush - almost too plush. I was worried it would bottom out under a load. But I wasn’t able to try it with weight.

Now MR has a new frame (the Mysterium) that doesn’t incorporate many of the updates from the new Metcalf frame. Makes me wonder if Metcalf is such a good choice after all. I do really like the packbag design of the Metcalf, and I’ve had discomfort in the past with the five-piece waist belt on the older frame, so I’m hoping to hear good things.

Seems they're carrying two frames essentially, the ultra light on the Metcalf like you said, and the nysterium that seems like a glmt v2

I dislike the strap arrangement on the shoulders on first glance on both. The UL looks to have the ladder load lifters and I don't see it in the mysterium 1000010093.png1000010094.png1000010095.png

Not a big fan of the 3rd strap (first 2 go from bag to frame) going pack to pack instead of pack to frame.

Overall, an interesting departure from others directions in the market.

I carried the new Metcalf 50 this year. It carriers very comfortably. I packed a rear quarter from a cow with no issues in November and then a rear and a front (boned out) in December with no issues at all. My only complaint is that the pack squeaks pretty badly. The fabric that is sewn around the frame seems to be the source. It is not overly loud, just annoying. Still not sure it is worth the price, but it is a nice pack.--R

Thanks guys. I'll probably pick up a Metcalf 100 sometime soon. I don't need the 100 liters for hunting, but I do need it for trips with the kiddos. The price difference between this and the new Marshall is substantial, and I honestly like the Metcalf bag design better.
