Update: Montana Serial Poachers Surrender
A Seeley Lake, Montana, man and his wife, described by wildlife authorities as "serial poachers," are behind bars after turning themselves in to authorities last week.
Dean Ruth and his wife Renita appeared in Justice Court last week on a string of violations, including six felonies each. They haven't entered pleas.
The charges against the Ruths involve more than 100 "trophy-class" game animals--including moose, bears, mountain lions, elk, white-tailed deer and mule deer--that were killed in Montana during an 8- or 9-year period, authorities say.
Dean Ruth faces 25 charges and his wife faces 18 charges. The six felonies include five counts of possessing unlawfully killed wildlife, and one count of possessing an illegal silencer, court records show.
Game officials say the Ruth family has a history of hunting violations dating back 50 years in Pennsylvania.
