Unpaid Leave for a Hunt

Having spent a lot of time Europe the one thing that we here in Merica really miss the boat on is actually taking time off. I get 26 days a year on Uncle Sugar and the only thing that stops me from taking it all is the ability of those I want to be with taking the same. Once I came to the realization that my work ethic is above average and that my employers get AT LEAST their monies worth I have never even flinched at taking time. I hope it works out for you.

Missing that boat is what makes it "MERICA". IMHO don't get me wrong having more time sounds great especially after just leaving a job with 20 days paid leave to start over with 0.

I think over 50% of the people out there hunting are on unpaid leave... you will be in good company.

another way to look at it... When you die... are you going to leave money to your heirs ? Do you think they will be disappointed that you shorted them 3 days pay you lost in 2018 ?

good god man... you have your whole life to work. Thanksgiving week is always a bust every year anyways. Very little work gets done that week.

doesn't hurt to ask, especially that week since PA is winding down for thanksgiving then deer season.

personally though ALL of my time off is unpaid, self employed and never understood the paid vacation/holidays/ect... give everyone more $$ when they are at work making the company $$ and let them take the time they desire. work 2-3hours/day on the road get paid for the time

good luck

Wow, thanks for all of the replies guys! It's very reassuring, I think the nail was hit on the head about regretting not taking the time off. I would/will probably be useless that week knowing I have an unpunched tag sitting in my pocket, work will probably be slow being in the construction industry and I've pulled my fair share of weight around here with taking on extra projects from 2 employees that have left the firm in the last 5 months.

I really appreciate all the support and I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Very interesting discussion. Some thoughts did not occur to me. I usually check my work schedule and apply to hunts when I scheduled off. I work 1 week on (80hours) and 1 week off. I do apply to hunts I really want without regard to on or off. That is why I have vacation.

To OP, your decision and make it the best for you and family. You seem to have a firm grasp at what you want!
