Hi, I'm planning on applying for Idaho unit 48 for a late bull elk tag. I would like to hunt it for deer while I wait to draw. Do you think there are pretty good numbers of game in there? Is a goal of 310" for a bull and 160" for a deer reasonable? I know it's not a top unit at all in Idaho for the draw but I'm not that picky and would shoot something smaller too probably if the freezer was empty. Thanks for any info. PM's PREFERRED.

I would call taxidermists and meat processors in the area you'd like to hunt and get their take on the animal quality. Also, a lot of sporting goods stores would have mounts up of local animals.

That's a great idea. Thanks. I hadn't thought of that. Outfitters can be good sources too but they can be kind of shifty sometimes if you don't have cash in hand.
