Has anyone rifle hunted unit 16C in New Mexico in the last couple of years? What kind of quality should we expect? Any information would be helpful.

What hunt did you draw, we have cow hunted there the last 2 years, there are some quality bulls there but you will have to work hard for the big boys.

We have the first rifle season. what type of quality were you seeing? Any suggestions on best areas for the big boys? Thanks for your help.

Have you ever hunted there ? do you know where the beaverhead work center is ? Great tags,,bulls that we saw were in the 300 to 320 class maybe 340`s

16C is still a great unit with monster bull potential. The wolves did hammer calf recruitment for a couple of years and the unit has been slow to recover due to extended drought. That said, there are some great bulls to be found by getting away easy access. The Gila is burning right now and if spring rains don't come, we will likely see a repeat of 2011. The most underrated Gila unit right now if you believe in magazine hype.

Thanks for the information. Very much appreciated. Do you know how close the fires are to 16C? Have you hunted 16C for rifle in the last couple of years?

From my understanding, the fires are mostly in the wilderness unit south of unit 16A,,but will be into unit 16A by sometime today,,this is still west of unit 16C
