I stepped out the side door this morning to get something only to see this jake strolling through my yard like he owned it. I ducked back inside to get my camera and when I came back out he scurried across the street, so when he got past the corner of my neighbor's fence I used it for a screen and chuffed the hundred yards to the corner and caught this shot. There are reports of a small group which hang out in a small wooded section a few blocks from me but this isn't the country; I live in town.
Maybe I should start baiting them with shelled corn and start practicing with my bow in preparation for the fall season.

You still live in NC? If so, no fall turkey season.
Also, if you live in NC, I'm starting to see more turkeys than ever around my neck of the woods, north of Charlotte.

I checked the regs and you're correct in that. I thought we had a fall season in the mountain counties; when did that go away, not that I ever utilized it?

Cool pics Tarheel .Can I be Tommy Topper? These were in my backyard on Sat. evening.

You're correct, we did have a winter turkey season in a few countries that bordered VA. I think that ended in '09.
Regardless, it's always fun having critters that are fun to hunt strolling through your yard! 15 years ago I would have said that you're crazy if you told me that I would have deer in my yard. Now, I expect to see them about every morning within a few feet of my front porch. 11 was standing there this morning...and I'm in the city limits. I shot 6 during archery season last year at 75 yards from my house.
Saying that to say, you may be hunting those turkeys next to your house in 10 years!
