Sorry...I am certain that is an early season ID elk zone...there was a video of elk like that running around until it was blocked from public view.

Would not ... as that would cost a boatload of money to shoot some freak farm monster bull. "Hunting" ... not so much.

I would not shoot game farm elk, but one of them in the wild I would. I am a meat hunter myself and view trophies as shots I would take if the opportunity presents itself but will take what I am given. Only condition to that is I will not shoot young of the current or previous years. I also would not take less than 4 points on deer or elk. I would rather take a young doe over a young buck. Freaks of nature like this elk, if I found one in the wild, I probably would shoot it but I would never pay a game farm or an outfitter for rights to shoot one.

Hey, some of the best deer are taken off cornfields. I hunted deer in area 107 in Colorado for more than 30 years and got some of the best tasting meat. That deer was NEVER gamey like one that is feeding on juniper or sage. In fact, the deer was closer to cattle prepped on corn before butchering. I pulled maybe 20 bucks out of area 107 over the years I hunted there and generally hunted a ravine surrounded by dry land corn or wheat. Got a lot of antelope over the years the same way except the antelope fed more on the wheat. I knew many of the farmers and ranchers because I had family in the area and grew up on a farm in the area.

There is a huge difference between antelope and deer in a corn field and a bull elk in a corn field.

Not anymore. Colorado Wildlife Dept transplanted about 12 elk into the Washington/Lincoln county area in early 2000. Every once in a while you might see them wandering. Still not legal to shoot them in that area though. If they ever take to the plains, they can trample a field of wheat in nothing flat and you will see farmers shooting them. Elk one roamed the plains along with buffalo.

Correct. Our deer and elk grow up on corn and alfalfa and are fantastic. My freezer stays full of crop-fed, fat deer.
Back to the original clip, a few years ago, a rancher buddy of mine shot a new Nebraska state record typical bull that netted 417. He was corn fed, so do not laugh at corn field elk. He was just as wild as any bull elk anywhere.

Elk do hang around irrigated fields especially wheat and alfalfa but not as much during hunting season, especially the bulls. I live in Cheyenne and I see them on Terry Bison Ranch and in wheat fields around Rawlins, Casper, Wheatland and Gillette. The elk I shot year before I got hurt and had to take a hiatus from hunting for a few years was shot on a wheat field on private property with permission, just south of Rawlins. That was one of the best tasting elk I ever remember shooting.

Iv got 33 trail cams (most are pulled in this time of year) All were or are in WI in areas with no elk within a 100+ miles so nope, not my video. Cool looking rack though.

A friend of mine west of here shot a Red Stag escapee from a put and take. Some of the high fence richey's grow weary with the concept and expense of fence maintenance,
