Uncle Mike’s Hunt

I just watched Randy’s dad by day hunt on YouTube and commend Randy for the respect he has for his uncle. It’s hard watching someone who taught you to hunt age and things which were easy for them are now hard. Randy showed great respect and humor. My dad and grandpa showed me how to elk hunt, both are very accomplished hunters. My grandpa is a tough man and as age caught up to him it was difficult to see him out of breath or not able to take a shot. It was even harder for him I’m sure. The last time he hunted was with me in 2008 and I wish I would of understood better what that hunt meant, I was just to young. He’s still alive and I think I should get him on a fly fishing boat next summer and listen to all his stories again. Thanks Randy for a great hunt again.

I had a similar experience about 10 years ago with my grandfather. I spend almost a decade under his tutelage learning to trap and hunt on our family trapline. I was surprised in my mid 20's when my grandfather handed over the reins of the "trapline manager" to me. The years that followed, it was I that would pick him up weekly to take him with me on the trapline. Year after year I saw his health and abilities deteriorate as he aged. I cherished every day I got to spend with him, and could see how proud he was of me as he watched me succeed over the years. Those later years with him created some of the best memories of my life.

These episodes brought back great memories, and also remind us to live life while we still have the chance to do so.

Randy is a high character individual. I’ve gone through this process with my grandpa. It takes patience and love to see someone start to lose their step.

I loved on the first episode Randy says "I guarantee you will laugh watching this hunt series". My wife watch the first episoded and said "laugh on a hunting show?". She watched the 3rd episode with my and she started laughing at something. I said see randy was right, you would laugh.
