For those interested (it seemed to me that this was a prior topic in SI?):

The Bureau of Land Management has released a draft environmental impact statement on EOG Resources natural gas development project in the Chapita Wells-Stagecoach Area of the Uinta Basin in Utah.

The DEIS will be available for review and comment for 45 days following publication in the Federal Register by the Environmental Protection Agency. Comments may also be submitted by facsimile to BLM's Vernal field office at (435) 781-4410. For details contact BLM's Stephanie Howard at (435) 781-4400.

There's a few wells going up in that area... I just really, really hope they keep the drilling out of the Book Cliffs.

Interestingly, that same office retired grazing permits purchased by SFW and RMEF in their last Resource Management Plan.

I surveyed a pipeline ROW over there last fall. You could say a few wells are going in. Most proposed well sites up there had only one well per pad. There's a surprising number of raptor nests in that country for how sparse it looks. We'll probably be re-doing that one this spring, as it was originally done in Sept.

However, I've heard that with fires and some of the larger scale treatments they've done on that district that the deer are getting pretty thick. Now if we can just keep the Coloradoans from shooting them in the winter... ;)

I'm not sure how many deer are in the Chipeta Wells area. A few pronghorn, jackrabbits and golden eagles, though.

From what I read the project involves plans to drill up to 627 new natural gas wells across about 31,870 acres.

The DEIS analyzes the proposal by EOG to drill the majority of the wells on 40-acre well spacing with up to 66 wells on 20-acre spacing. The project also would include about 99 miles of new roads and 104.5 miles of pipelines.
The area already contains something like 325 gas-producing wells, about 121 miles of roads and 115 miles of pipeline. An additional 100 wells, 12 miles of access road, and 18.5 miles of pipelines have been approved.

The proposed life of the project is 40 years, with the majority of the drilling and development activities to occur within the first seven years following approval of the BLM's decision.

Like pointer said, hopefully they will keep the drilling out of the Book Cliffs.

Don't know about Chipeta Wells, but hear that closer to Vernal there's a few deer.

MarvB- Thanks for the synopsis. Projects like that make it clear there are some offices I will not work. I understand the need for oil/gas drilling, but don't want to have to be a 'yes-man' for it.
