I was out to dinner with my wife a week ago, when we got a call from my 19 year old son. That morning he had asked if he could take my old truck and the boat out with some friends....no problem, he has done this many times in the past. Apparently he had a good day on the lake, with 4 girls, and was taking the boat out of the water when he realized that he had left the motor down. He heard the scraping and jumped out of the truck to go back and raise the trim/motor. Apparently he forgot to set the brake or put it in park......He told a girl in the boat to raise the motor, and when she did it became apparent that the motor touching the ground was the only thing holding truck, boat trailer and boat in place. As soon as this pressure was off.....there she goes! Truck rolled back, until trailer jack knifed. At this point top of truck was approx 2 feet under water. 5 sheriffs vechicles, 3 sheriff divers and a wrecker later and it was all out of the water.

No damage to boat or trailer, but truck was submerged for a couple hours.

Son is a good kid, and I guess we all make mistakes...but this sucks.

Now that is has been a week, I can kind of laugh about it.

Ouch, that sucks! I worry about that when my kids are running the truck also. It can happen to anyone, a grown man here in town that knows better and has loaded the boat hundreds of times did the same thing. Another guy did it with kids in the back seat and lost at least one child if I remember right. I'm just glad nobody was hurt. I feel your pain though, my daughter rammed her brothers truck through the front of my garage a few years ago, I can kinda smile about it now, but can't laugh yet like she can :)
Hang in there Dad!

He was probably so alarmed that he was dragging his dad's prop that he forgot to set the brake/park.

Laughing about it is the best thing to do. That and give him $h!t for the rest of his life.

Something tells me it wil take him the rest of his life to live this one down. It is good you can laugh about it. A good kid, making an honest mistake, is probably all a dad can ask for these days. I know my Dad had to suffer a few.

he probably feels worse about it than you do.

Also this is why every boat ramp should have a webcam to just watch everything that happens on a boat ramp.

Even though it sucks, you can replace a truck. You cant replace people. Glad nobody was injured.

Agreed, certainly could have been a lot worse for sure. Everyone walked away, don't even want to think about what may have happened if someone was between truck and trailer when it rolled in.

Been blessed with good kids, I can think of many other types of situations that I would prefer this one to.

You are fortunate that there was not a fuel or Oil released. It get's expensive real quick when that happens.

Were going to need pictures of the girls to see what type of punishment really needs to take place here :D

No "like a rock" comments yet? Glad to see everyone was ok. Those pictures are priceless, glad you can laugh it off now. Messing up dads stuff is something we've all done, but this is first place material here.

Crazy! Like above, glad no one was hurt.

I'm guessing that didn't help his chances with the ladies. :D With text and social media, I wonder how long it took that story to make the rounds with his friends. I'm guessing less than 4 mins... ;)

Glad everyone is ok. I was cleaning fish at Lake Waveland with my grandpa Wayne when I was about 12yrs old and some older gentleman and his wife pulled up in a new truck to the cleaning house to see what was being caught/cleaned and he also forgot to set the brake. . . .splash!!! He was trying to get to it before it hit the water. . .he didn't make it. Lessons were taught that day. . . .:)

That's funny, and true. It was getting "snap chatted" within minutes of coming out of the water.

I was thinking the same thing.

Seriously though I'll be another to say glad no one was hurt. Had a good friend lose a son when a stuck truck broke loose downhill when he was behind it.

This is something that will be told and laughed about forever in your family.

Thank God everyone was ok. With that being said....That is gonna make for some great campfire stories and laughs.....that was a doozie.....
