He must be getting dementia. I realize some gun owners hold those views, but to put it in print?

I read about this a couple of days ago on another forum and it hasn't seemed to generate the same effort to get someone fired as zumbo did. Mainly the guys on Arfcom who really put it to him.

Heresy!! Feed him to the lions like the early Christians in Rome. Oh wait they were on to something before the masses.

Once upon a time reason allowed the NRA to support a ban on machine guns in the interest of public safety.

I've never liked his attitude and his sickening self promotion, so I've never watched too many of the episodes......and don't read the magazine, either. Like sbhooper stated, now I know i never will!

It's people like him who others look to as "experts" simply due to their affiliation with the NRA who find reason to fault the NRA. Unfortunately simply because he's associated with them, they can't filter the nonsense that emanate from his pontifications.

I don't know who Dick Metcalf is, and I have only browsed through Guns and Ammo when I see it laying around at someones hunting camp, but in reading the actual article, I have no idea what has your feathers ruffled?

When I read the article it is talking about the difference between infringement and regulation. I didn't see anywhere that he asking for guns to be taken away, or christmas to be canceled, of the tooth fairy to be hunted down and wings clipped.

He believes people should have training before owning firearms. I can understand someones viewpoint on that. You don't have to spend much time at a public range to understand why he believes it either.

But I also believe there is a huge difference between having a viewpoint on something, and doing your job of writing an article on it, and someone who has a viewpoint and presses the issue into politics/voting. I don't see where he crossed that line at all.

It would just be easier if we could brand the idiots of the world so we would all know who not to sell a gun or alcohol or advertisement space to.

Just my thoughts, maybe I could write for guns and ammo since you all think Dick should be sent away.

What else should we be required to do before we can own firearms? Maybe it should be like in Washington, DC. I mean you can still own a gun, they haven't outright banned them all. Maybe we should have to have a four year degree before we can own a gun. Or maybe pay a yearly $1000 tax per gun. How about psychological exam and have the NSA pull up every little thing you've ever looked at online or every conversation you've ever had on a phone and have a board of people decide if your qualified. Would that be ok?

I'm against helmet laws but I think you are fool if you don't wear one. Same as firearms, I think everybody should get training on how to properly use their firearms and learn in what instances they can legally use force. I'm a firearms instructor, it would benefit me but I don't think it should be mandatory.

Dick also owns a firearms training company. Suppose he's trying to make it so it benefits him? Sounds like something outfitters do. Maybe all hunters should be required to hunt with an approved outfitter. We can't trust you guys out there on your own with a weapon in your hand.

I don't think anything should change, but I do like the idea of letting me brand the idiots of the world so we can all avoid them.

I do think a lot of people on both sides of the gun issue struggle with the difference between regulation and infringement and when that line is crossed. That line moves pretty far when you talk with different people. Everyones line is different I think, just like most issues. I didn't see him asking to move that line either, just where his line is.

I'm not sure why people get offended when someone says, right here is where my line is

Now maybe since I don't watch or read this guy I am missing something.

Only one person in this thread isn't a hard headed retard. No offense. People need to be a bit more open minded. Really confused as to what people are so up in arms about. You must be the same people who went and bought all the ammo up after assault ban talks elevated, as if every gun you own was going to be taken from your cold dead hands. (CHILL,NO ONE IS TAKING YOUR GUNS)

Some really uneducated people who own guns and give gun owners a bad name. It sickens me to see such hard headness as a proud gun owner.

You're right, sheesh, I'm sorry. What was I thinking? Our liberal leaders would never think of banning our guns or collecting them. We should give them plenty of room to make and shape policy. We have nothing to fear. The NRA and it's ilk should stay quiet and keep their emails and opinions to themselves. These things will shake out without any interference. What we need is Sportsman for Obama and sensible gun owners that don't need more than 3 bullets. As long as we have our hunting rifles. More police is what we need then there'd be no reason for a gun other than to keep my heritage and family tradition of hunting.
