Some skiers were caught the other day and hunters are not immune. The biggest danger is that a small slide will knock you off balance and send you off a cliff. It could also bury you if you are in a confined place that funnels the snow like a narrow gully. Be aware of your surroundings and the consequences of a slide.

Thanks for the warning. I was reading that earlier today. Always seems like Avalanches are the last thing on my mind. Never used to pay much attention when I was younger.

There was a small hill behind the parents house where we use to set them off on purpose and ride them down.................

It was fun until the big one, a couple of us went off the cliff. I remember getting dug out by a friend, it was like concrete I couldn't move.

One of the numerous reasons and memories for which I was hoping for a girl when the wife was pregnant.

I'm a big Mary now days.

Here's a semi avalanche from this morning by three forks. This truck hyperextended its lateral peterbuilt tendon. : )

Now I know why my cousin called them "freight shakers".

Be careful out there!!!!

Here is some more info on the fatality for those that are interested in how these things happen... seems like he was down low in flat terrain but created a fracture that propagated up the hillside and released the whole thing. It looks like was in a confined area so it was all funneled and piled on top of him. With some cases it is obvious they were being foolish, but I can easily see myself doing the same thing as this guy did on a sled.

I was on the Bridger Ski Patrol in a previous life, and still check the GNFAC site regularly from... now until April, or maybe sometimes into May.
This is unbelievably tragic. They weren't rookies, and to get buried that deep, clear down on the "flats"...
His partner dug "heroically", uncovered the victim's head in ~20 minutes, but...

Be careful out there...
