I just wanted to point out that my home state of VT is ranked third. Where's your fatassed state ranked? :D Notice that four of the top six states are in New England! Why do you suppose that is?

WATERBURY, Conn. - Child magazine has ranked Connecticut the best state in the country when it comes to healthy children.

The state's ranking was something of a surprise, according to Colleen Thompson, a dietitian and extension educator for the Department of Nutritional Science at the University of Connecticut.

"It's great that Connecticut came out on top, and I'm pleased, but there are plenty of states that are doing as many good things or even more," Thompson said Tuesday.

The magazine considered factors including the availability of safe playgrounds, requirements for physical education, school nutrition policies, participation in youth sports and the number of fast-food restaurants.

Another thing in Connecticut's favor was new state legislation requiring that this school year, school cafeterias must offer low-fat dairy products, bottled water and fruit.

On the magazine list, New York ranked second, followed by Vermont, Massachusetts, Missouri and Maine. Meanwhile, Alaska has the least fit children, followed by Nebraska, Nevada, Mississippi, Kansas and South Dakota.

IT,

WTF does this have to do with sportsmans issues? I bet most Idahoans wish you would move back to your "home state" along with all your liberal mindset. Why don't you respond to the Wealth Tag debate that you started? Chicken shit.

New York ranking second is a bit surprising to me.

I suspect farming accidents alone help reduce the rankings in a lot of rural states.

I've seen some of these types of articles before and some of the criteria for a "healthy state" are dubious at best. Number of fast food restaurants? Kind of iffy to me. Interesting none the less.

Well think i seen this on tv ther was documentry on guy who went on a fast to eat 30days i htink at mcdonalds and ask cafiterea why is there no fat stuff just fruit juice and brownie that was it hell i glad i aint in school i like sugar :D

I looked thru the site, where I always have questions when it comes to surveys of any sort,
How it was worded!
What data was actually looked at to come up with the answer!
Who paid for the research?
Who was actually to gain from the research?
The real reason the research was even implemented in the first place!
Survey's, while some times have a legitimate means, usually are put into place for a certain persons/groups gain and nothing more.

I've read a lot of these studies, all have approximately the same list in the same order. They base a lot of the information on the amount of available money through different programs to help children. They also base it on education, pollution, child death rate, etc.

Send some links, I would be interested in looking at them (when you come across them)
