Surf Fishing in New York

My wife goes to New York City for work at least 1 time a year. This year she is going the last week of April and first couple of days of May. She wants me to go along. I have never been to or had the desire to go to New York City, but upon doing some research that will be the beginning of the Striper run in the saltwater. Has anyone ever done this? Recommendations for a day trip? I already have a surf rod and would buy a few plugs.

Go a little south and jump on a party boat.I got a nice striper,35 lbs, last year while bluefishing.This was on a party boat and I missed winning the pool by a few lbs.I think a dozen stripers were boated that trip in early May.You should be hitting it pretty good.Stripers and blues put up a heck of a fight.Stripers are good eating,blues not so much but you could smoke them
Wouldn't be hard to talk me into joining you.A day on the ocean is great stress relief.Boats run about $80 for the day for everything,rod/bait/pool entry

I also have done a party boat out of Naintic CT. It's not in NY but not far depending on where you are staying. Same deal, big bluefish but some big rockfish mixed in.
