The weather was supposed to be beautiful but the post spawn walleye bite is not good right now. So instead I drug out the crank baits and found a bay we could troll and have it all to ourselves. The northern bite is kind of crazy and the guy I was with wanted to keep them all but I talked him into keeping fewer so we didn't have to spend two hours at the cleaning station. These northerns out of the cold water are great table fare.

Your aquatic options are second to none up there. The idea of having a "bay to ourselves" is something I'm envious of. Looks like an awesome day.

Awesome, can't complain about a day of catching Northerns. I also couldn't agree more on them as table fare.

Yeah we pickle a bunch of them. Also can them in a pressure cooker with just a drop or two of liquid smoke. They taste just like kippered snacks. Nice part about canning or pickling is you don't have cut out the Y bones.

Very cool. I've never caught a Northern. I went largemouth fishing for the first time ever on Saturday. I'm hooked. Literally. We were thumping them on Senko rigs, two that were pushing 5 pounds pretty hard.

Very nice!

This year I am going to make a few recipes using flaked northern. Won't have to cut out the Y bones and will just take the bones out after I bake them. Personally I think they're better than walleye.
