Steelies in Riggins

Wednesday morning I leave on a Jet to head to Idaho for a 3 day fishing trip in Riggins, ID. Fishing from a Jetboat on the Salmon River.

I did this trip last year and got to experience fishing among floating chunks of Ice. Came home empty handed.

Like the saying goes, "the first time is for fun, every time after is for revenge!"

Temps have dropped in Riggins. But the weather forecast is for mostly sunny.

Doesn't sound like anglers are catching much though

If the main river is a bust, try the Little Salmon. One of the most memorable days of metal heads was on Veterans day. The warmer water had them crushing swinging and waking flies.

Hope you have a great trip. Are you fishing right in riggins or are you jetting up river? I use to guide white water trips there during the summer and have floated the main salmon from corn creek al the way to riggins. Poly Bemis ranch is awesome to see and learn the history.

Last year we fished downstream from Timezone Bridge (Hammer creek) until we hit the ice dam around China Bar I think.... The next day we went upstream from Riggins busting ice most of the way in the Jetboat.

The river is high now with all the rain, which means the fishing isn't always the best. My dad fishes practically every day because he lives in White Bird, spey fishing...he told me yesterday the river is up, so he'll give it some time to come back down before he goes back out.

Fishing was slow. We launched at Spring Bar. There were 5 of us on the boat.

One guy caught 2 wild steelhead in 2 days. Another caught 1 Hatchery Fish. A third Caught a HAWG of a wild steelhead where the boat captain had to back down the rapids as the fish ran downstream. I enjoyed watching.

I got to land a little Bull Trout before the end of the second day.
