Is anyone interested in hunting hogs in Texas in the spring? Maybe March or April? Last hunt we scheduled got interupted for me by work and war. I still want to go stick a hog. Anyone want to go?

I may be, cannot say yet but if airfare is low and i have enough time count me in. Did you have a place lined up yet?

april or may would be iffy for me but i should be able to make it. if we went to one of those places that had javelina too that would be a big bonus for me. i know some places in texas have both.

tnctcb, I'm up for about anything.. I haven't hunted in two years except for a little week in the forest last year. I need to kill something besides a Democrat/Liberal. If you have any ideas, toss them out there.. I would really like someplace between Austin and San Antonio. I have a couple of other obligations for this trip.

Sorry Rufus, this is a "kill two birds with one stone" trip.. Has to be in Texas..

I'm kinda new here, but will throw out a suggestion. I hunted a ranch 1 hour from San Antone last spring. They are loaded with hogs, and if the hunt is the last of March, turkeys can be hunted also.
They built a beautiful stone home for clients right on the ranch, and within easy walking distance of hunting.
They will pickup clients at the airport in San Antone, and if I remember right, they will cook the evening meal every night of the hunt.
The only stipulations they have are; bowhunting only, and they want hunters to come to the ranch that know each other, which it seems everyone here pretty much does.
If this interests you, I can get more info.
Oh, I know to hunt hogs was $150 a day with no limit on hogs, but I will have to check and see how much to add turkeys.

dan what do you think. i would be ok with a bow hunt but you seem to be rifleman so i can be flexible to what others want.

Not sure what ya'll are looking for exactly but I have this one outfitter who is offering group hunts for Javelina and unlimited hogs. The hunt is for 10 hunters and they either have to be all archery or all muzzleloader. Here is the info on the hunt.
Special Group Rate Hunts
Archery: Hog & Javelina Group Hunts

These are being offered as groups hunts for groups of 10 hunters. Hunts will start Feb. 3, 2005 and run approximately every 3 days with a break in between hunts. Each hunter will be allowed 2 Javelinas and unlimited hogs.

These hunts will take place on 2 seperate ranches totaling 13,000 acres located in Zapata and Laredo TX.
Lodging or food are not provided but there is an "old" bunk house that can sleep 6 if anyone would want to use it but camping is available at the ranches. SCI record book Javelinas are being harvested on the one ranch.

3 Day Hunts 2 Javelinas & unlimited hogs per hunter $250.00 per hunter

That sounds real good... What do you call "loaded" with hogs? How many did you see? How many are you allowed?? I am looking for a "meat hog" hunt, rather than a trophy hunt. Hunting them with a bow is awsome, i killed 2 that way already and it is a rush.

Schmalts, I talked to the owner last month, and he actually said they are being overrun by hogs. But, they have no javelina in the area. You can hunt off of feeders or spot and stalk.
In 2 1/2 days of hunting, I saw about 20 hogs. Doesnt sound like alot but I only hunted a small portion of the land. All 4 of us killed. You can shoot as many as you want. Turkeys are limited to one per person.
If you are interested, I will get his email so you can talk to him directly.

Yes i am interested. sounds like a good place to go. Did the terrain favor bow hunting? did you kill with a bow?

Yes, it is bowhunting only, and we all killed with a bow. It does favor bowhunting, although there are some open portions of land. There is a creek that runs thru the property, with big oaks along the banks. That is where we did our spot and stalk and killed 2 hogs. There are also some thickets that they seemed to use to bed down.
One thing to keep in mind is, this is a low fence property, which means the animals can come and go as they please, but it seems like the creek with the oaks is a big attractant to them.
I have to find the owner's contact info, I have it at work, but will not be back there for 2 weeks.

April I will be somewere in the Caribian seas Scuba diving and looking at Boobies..... But, If it's a little bit earlier I'm probably in.

I'd be up for SJ's plan or Bowhuntingmaniac's.........I like the option for Javalina''s and the use of MUzz's for SJ's plan...... talk to me boys, Let's Git 'er DONE !!!!

EDIT :

bowhuntingmaniac, with 62 posts and you've been registered here 2 years you're far from "NEW". :D

i really like the idea of getting a chance at a javelina too. i love to hunt hogs but a javelina would be a big bonus.

Myself i could care less about the stink pigs. I would rather go to a place with a lot of hogs that is close to a major airport (within a few hours) to keep the airfair cost reasonable.

Well, Moosie, you all seem to know each other so well. ..... and I didnt want to invade into an area that may be sacred.......hehehehe.
I will get the info, then you all decide.
You can always come to AZ and hunt javelina............
