Smallmouth bass in Salmon River?

I'm floating the wilderness section of the Salmon River from Corn Creek to Cary Creek starting this weekend. I see smallmouth bass are in the lower Salmon River, anyone have any experience with them in the river upstream of Riggins? If they're present, I'll pick up a fishing license. Thanks!
