Skyrocketting Wisc. elk population.

25 elk in 1995 to 103 in Jan. of 2005.

It looks the the Wisconsin elk population is quadrupleing in 10 years and then some.

Sorry, but it is still a fricking joke. If they did it correct they would have started with 100. Penn state started the reintroduction the same year i believe and they have had a limited season for many years now. But like i said, they started with a good herd number.
I have never seen or looked for them, they are in a part of the state i do not get to very often. It is also big woods country as well, and finding them would be very hard unless you are a local that knows the whereabouts they are hanging out.
I am glad they did it but they went about it so half assed it is kind of rediculas. A private group was going to do just what i mentioned and do thier own funded herd starting with a much larger number but the CWD thing put it on hold. That area would have been only 25 miles from my land.

We imported 1500 in '97-'98 and now have over 5000. But like JBF said, 100 is better than zero!
