If we dont include misses, I'm doing good.

2017 - 2 deer with 3 shots (all with my 30-06)
2018 - 2 deer with 2 shots (one with MZ and one with 30-06) also one shoulder shot with my bow on a deer that, to the best of my knowledge, did not die.
2019 - 1 antelope with 1 shot (30-06), 3 deer with 3 shots (one with MZ and 2 with 30-06)

Animals I've missed:
2017 - 1 deer with bow, 1 deer with MZ
2018 - no misses
2019 - 2 antelope with 30-06, 2 deer with MZ

Last year I realized how bad I am at shooting from an improvised rest. If the range ever opens back up, that's one of my big practice points this year. I also started carrying a shooting monopod last year and didnt miss afterward.

Good shooting!

Last 10 deer total was 15 shots. I had two 2 shot kills, seven 1 shot kills and then in 2018 I made a less than perfect hit and tried two neck shots to finish the deal. I missed twice before hitting the neck.
Longest shot was 400 and the rest were 100 to 200 yards. One of my 2 shot kills I missed on the first shot. The other 2 shot kill I wasn't sure how hard he was hit so I hit him again. Yes I keep a small note book on my big game hunting. Been keeping track for over 50 years.

Years ago I had a couple that took more than they should have but I am one of those that believes if you are not positive he is going down hit him again. Once an animal is hit you do whatever you can to finish it as soon as you can.

I have done pretty well on my shot ratio:
2019- 2 deer 3 shots missed the closest shot

2018- no shots

2017- 2 deer 3 shots-2 on Did not recover missed completed on second shot.

2016-2 deer 2 shots

2015- 1 deer 2 shots. Shot one more time To finish him off.

most were in close 200yrds or less.

Well here it is... to the best of my knowledge this is all the shots I have taken at deer, elk, mule deer, whitetails, and black bears since 2016. The "MISS" category includes some wounded and unrecovered animals as well as clean misses. The verdict is that I need to be more picky with my bow shots and that the safest place to be when I have a flintlock in my hands is directly in front of me.

In total:

50 shots at 39 animals resulting in 29 in the freezer or 1.72 shots per animal

If the misses are taken out its 40 shots at 29 animals or 1.38 shots per animal

I had a kill shot on a cow elk a few years ago. She didn't flinch at all. So I shot again. Found all three shots going in right above the shoulder blade and blew out the lungs and heart. Three shots and each one should of been a kill shot on their own weight but like others this cow was not cooperating. Normally though, a box of bullets lasts me about 4-5 years and I put in for extra tags where I can get them too.

2018 Cow Elk- 2 shots
2018 Antelope- 1 shot
2018 WT Doe- 1 shot

2017 Mule Deer Buck- 1 shot
2017 Cow Elk- 1 shot
2017 Antelope- 2 shots

My last 10:

blacktail buck-1 shot
blacktail buck-1 shot
small wild pig-1 shot
big wild pig-2 shots
mule deer buck-2 shots
antelope buck-1 shot
mule deer buck-1 shot
antelopebuck-1 shot
bull elk-1 shot (bow)
mule deer buck-1 shot

Ratio-1.2

*The muley 2-shot kill was an unnecessary follow-up on animal still standing...I'm happy with where I'm at

Very efficient! Thanks for sharing!

The first mule deer I killed (2015) skewed my ratio pretty bad.

What a shit show. Five shots, four of them terrible. I learned a lot from that rodeo and spent a lot of time practicing shooting after that.

2016 mule deer—1 shot
2017 mule deer—1 shot
2018 bull elk—1 shot
2019 cow elk—3 shots, all lethal

Good job on bouncing back and self reflection! Thanks for sharing.

The last time I shoot more than 1 round was probably 20 yr's ago. I remember it well. My 308 carbine @ close, close range. I didn't compensate for the height of the scope and hit high. Yes it was that close. 5yd's maybe.
