I currently have a MR Metcalfe that I’ve been using for archery/rifle. However, I’m looking to add smaller bag to my arsenal. I’m debating between the MR Mule bag or buying the SG Serac 1700.

I enjoy the SG Avail. I really like it as a day/treestand pack.

VG is right from a practical stand point, all you do is swap the bag and you still have all of the load hauling capability of the metcalf.

I use a SG avail for a lot of my whitetail hunting, holds quite a bit and is pretty well organized.

I use the Mule on my MR frame more often than the Metcalf. It’s a good sized daypack. As VG said, it still has the same meat hauling ability.

Unless you’re really set on another brand, I’d buy the extra MR bag for ~$125 instead of dropping cash on a whole new pack.

Love my SG Avail, I’ve used it as a carry on, shed hunting, fishing, hiking, ski pack, weighted training, mushroom foraging, sure I’m leaving a bunch out. Super light, great fit. I’d buy it again.

Do you prefer it with x curve frame or as a stand alone?

I was considering the Serac also but am glad I got the Avail instead, as it still fills up when putting big puffy clothes in during winter. It's nice and low profile though which is comfortable when active.

Cheers
