My friend Shayne and I went to the Black Hills last weekend in hopes of a Merriam turkey. We arrived Friday afternoon and saw at least 40 turkey so we were pumped. They must have known the season opened the next day as they disappeared! We had a great time and saw some beautiful country. It was different hunting turkey in wooded hills and I think another two days and we could have gotten it done. We will be back! The definite highlight was on Saturday morning on our hike in Shayne spotted a coyote. He let an arrow fly and smoked it at 74 yards!

Hope you enjoy the photos.

Thanks, Gerald. You can blame people like mtmiller for making me want to get better at photography. If only the turkey hunting would have turned out as good.

Was that flag on "Alcatraz" in Lake Pactola, used to jump off that in college. Love the black hills.

Yes sure is. I didn't have the good camera when I first drove by and there was a bald eagle sitting in the tree on there would have been a great pic but he was gone when I went back with Steve.

Good shooting on the yot and your pics are incredible! Hope you get em next time. Good huntin'

Great pics. Looks like Pactola and maybe a few shots around Nemo? I hope to be hunting deer there this fall. Sweet country.

Thats awesome. I think getting those pics made the hunt itself. I've taken quite a few pics this winter too. The problem is they're still in my camera. One of these days I'll have to download them..

Yeah I think we were a little early but always fun to be in the Black Hills. We ate like kings with elk steak, elk burgers, and of course bacon for breakfast. It was good practice for our MT bear hunting trip coming up at the end of May!!

The coyote shot and the pics definitely made the trip. Got the shot on video so hopefully I can post that soon.

Pictures on a card is always a problem. I have lots of pics on storage but never do anything with them.

Excellent pictures! What was the hunting pressure like? Were you fighting crowds?

I just got into the turkey hunting game this year and would like to make a trip out there next year.
