SD sheep auction

Where in SD do these auction tag hunters usually hunt?

World record came from Badlands unit two years ago. That’s most likely place they will hunt. Also can hunt in the Black Hills but nothing big there.

Last year a new area was opened for the auction tag holder. Wait for a ram to walk out of a National Park to feed on private ag field. Come up with a quarter million and a pitchfork and you can kill a big ram.

This herd got the draw hunter to get the rifle out of the pickup. It was a short walk, so little time wasted. The auction tag ram was killed a few hours earlier in the vicinity.

Ram got a little evasive when he got into range.

BTW, I did not interrupt any of the hunt. I was shooting pics of these sheep when the tag holder showed up and parked near me. I was told the draw hunter killed his ram later that day.

I wasn’t in favor of the auction tag, but I learned to live with it. But as soon as the tag money got big our gov needed a cut.

Well ya. If you spend that kind of money you have to bring people to pack for you... Can't expect to do that after cutting that kind of check
