Walked around the hills for two days chasing gobblers that we heard... They were henned up but finally got this big tom to break away from the group. Watched this bird in the clear cut strutting around untill he finally ran up the hill and popped over it at 29 yards..

The deer are all over the place right now. Give them a few months they well spread out and u wount see any at all. Biologist say they aren't doing good at all. Might have some thing to do with the cats.

Thats a fine bird.I was hoping to make my way down to the Black Hills this year from further North but only if I tagged out,.....wouldn't you know it my first year in ten where the turkeys beat me.

Congrats on the turkey! Me and 2 buddies hunted the black hills for the 1st time this spring. It was pretty tough finding any birds but I managed to get 1 and it was one of my most rewarding/fun hunts ever. I have killed many many rios in Oklahoma but tagging my first Merriams was an experience I will never forget.

Congrats on the tom!

Merriams are my favorite turkey to hunt, unfortunately Oregon introduced 1000's of Rio Grandes that have nearly taken over where the Merriam's once roamed. The Black Hills are calling my name! :D
