Yesterday, the SCOTUS handed down a decision holding that the excessive fines clause of the 8th applies to the States. Timbs v. Indiana. The fact scenario involved the seizure of a Land Rover from a drug dealer, which leads me to think it will have some implication on the enforcement of seizures of equipment and vehicles for acts of poaching, and may also come into play in some of the hefty fines that result when multipliers are used to assess fines for poaching trophy class animals. I'm not saying that fish and game agencies should change their practices in anticipation, but just anticipating that someone is going to advance excessive fines arguments.
