Ruthless Bird vs Pronghorn

I’ve seen this video clip making the rounds on social media. Appears to be a big Golden Eagle eating a pronghorn alive.

There appears to be two wounds, one for each talon, on the pronghorn’s back. Impressive bird.

It is tough to watch, yet gives me more respect and appreciation for both species. It would be great for more people to watch it, especially people who don't engage in the natural world on a frequent basis, in hopes they would realize that the natural world is not some sort of video game; this is serious stuff, life and death stuff, the same as it used to be for humans before our brain's ability to invent comforts rescued our pansy asses from the same daily life struggle the eagle and the pronghorn face.

You mean like "ruthless" bird?

If one looks at synonyms for and the definition of the word “ruthless”, I don’t make the connection with naïveté.

Our compassion for the pronghorn as well as the eagle is felt when witnessing the lack thereof when it comes to the eagle slowly picking the meat off that pronghorn, who has no conscious thing left to do but suffer. Not saying it is good or bad. Makes me think of a sentence from Norman Maclean’s , Young Men and Fire:

“Long ago a science teacher told me, 'The universe, she is a bitch. Several times since, I have thought about that sentence. It is probably right.”

I think bitch and ruthless are similar sentiments, and describe a feeling, though not necessarily a value.

When I watched the video it reminded me of this video this lady filmed from her lake house in my stomping grounds. Both hard to watch.
