I have been waiting for this, since the RMEF put in for a grant with Cinnabar Foundation for monies to buy access in Blaine County.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation buys land that provides access to Breaks

"A 93-acre land transaction brokered by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation opens the door to about 6,000 acres of previously difficult-to-reach public land just in time for Montana’s big game hunting season... RMEF plans to transfer the property to the Bureau of Land Management in 2016. Until that happens, BLM will assist in managing the property and provide immediate public access to it as well as adjacent public lands."

Also FWP funding.

Great work by RMEF & all partners. It also highlights why the decision to eliminate any fee title purchases from FWP is such a dumb idea.

I helped put in the signs Wednesday. Thanks to RMEF.

It was smokey.

Very cool. As much as some people whine about the particular stance RMEF might take on an issue here and there, there is no doubt that they have saved a zillion acres of land from either being bought or closed to access over the last 20 years.

I'm not very familiar with this country, is this likely related?

Nope. This is a completely separate deal. Just a little 93 acre parcel that blocks off about a 3 mile trail to get back into what looks like some decent BLM hunting ground. The private looks like it only blocked off about the first 200 yards of a road with the next 3 miles or so all on BLM land. Saves about 3 miles of walking and having to park on the side of a road and leave your vehicle.

At least that's the way it looked on the map in the article.

Randy 11,

Looks like the Wilkes are trying to overcome some negative publicity.

Hope hunters in the area take advantage of it.

Would surprise me it continued, but may be the face of the future. I do not think so!

These are the kind of projects RMEF is interested in funding, along with their normal habitat work. If any of you know of similar spots where acquisition of small parcels can return such great access benefits to the hunting public, please notify the RMEF Regional Director for your state, or even send me a PM here and I will get the information to them.

Thanks to all the partners who also contribute to these projects. Collectively, we can do a lot more than individually.

So great to see. Proud to support the RMEF. Thanks to all of you who helped on this and who support the various outdoor organizations.
