RIP Jack Atcheson SR.

Butte Guy, Jack Atcheson Sr., left yesterday.
MT sportsmens/women and all who recreate in Montana have gained a lot from his efforts.
PLWA, Butte Skyliners, MT Stream Access Law, etc.
Be a fitting tribute for more to suit up and follow in his foot steps.........

This is sad news. I talked with Tony, Jack was one of his best friends, he had stated a few days ago Jack looked rough.

I am kicking myself now, because I was scheduled to go to Butte to copy alot of Jack's documentation and photos, after I moved to Helena, but I came down with pneumonia, was going to wait until I got back to Helena mid January to visit him, do some video, his mind was so alert.

He was such an inspiration. I loved conversations with him on these issues, he provided a lot of wisdom.

There is a quote, "If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants." Jack is one of the those giants!

Damn. I remember growing up and reading books with Jack Atcheson’s name in them. I found out how much work he did for our cause much later than that. Condolences to Jack Jr. and the rest of the family.

Jack was a nice fellow who did a lot for sportsmen. Blessings to him and his family. I wrote him about one of his books that he wrote and how much I liked it. A few days later an autographed copy came in the mail for me. I did not ask for it, nor did I expect it. That's the kind of person that he was.

I'm sure Jack is giving the good lord advice on how to make things better in Heaven, and doing so only by fax or phone. God Speed, Jack. Montana is a much better place thanks to your stewardship and dogged determination.

He stepped up his game!

I remember when I was first introduced to Jack Sr. It came with the caveat that fax is your best option for communicating with him. Or call him, but be prepared to spend at least an hour on the phone with him.

It was usually an hour (or three) well spent.

His 2016 Op-Ed piece here has some insight and bearing on topics past and recent on here. People would do well to read this, especially considering this is a site for DIY hunters, who prefer to hunt public lands.
The snippet about what a small group of dedicated sportsman can do is spot on.
