Somewhere I saw something that was designed to be mounted on a backpack shoulder strap so that rifle slings would not slide off. it was like a large button or maybe a drawer pull that the sling grabbed onto.

I can't find it and searching for it has not proven effective.

Does anyone have a clue what I am talking about and where to find one?

Making one, might be my best bet.

I bought one of these in a moment of weakness. (https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Defense-Gunslinger-Sling-Keeper/dp/B00UDFIERS) It never left the basement, as shortly thereafter I bought this (https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Gun-Sling/dp/B00U1SEL3S) the greatest gun sling of all time!

Heh! I believe this is the same? This sling has been the cat's meow! The butt end slips right off as you prop the rifle into the shoulder , etc. One of the few really smart picks I've made for add on items.

My rifles can be a little odd to sling and I have a set of shooting sticks I won't leave home without that also go over my shoulder.

From the looks of your picture your strap is nylon webbing. The one I linked to is some type of elastic rubber, definitely different. The elastic one provides several different ways to carry without slipping off shoulder. You can seem some examples at the sellers website - https://ultimategunsling.com/

The light grey stripes on the sling are a gripping rubber type material.
