One of my son's friends was just given a Savage model 99 in 300 Savage from his grandfather. The rifle was made in 1946 and for its age is in pretty good shape. It has a Redfield peep sight, the aperture of the peep seems pretty large but we got it dialed in for 100 yards and it seems like a pretty good shooting & fun gun. I'm not familiar with this kind of sight, are the markings on the side a minute-of-angle scale or yardage or something else? Almost looks like a predecessor to today's fancy scope elevation turrets. This young man has never been a deer hunter, but he said if he can get good enough with the rifle he wanted to try and get his first deer this fall with his grandfather's rifle. Any insights about the Redfield peep sight?
