Got back from the MT breaks elk hunt and the next day Pat and I took off on her deer hunt. She drew a LQ tag that was good for either a mule deer or a whitetail. The first day we looked at probably 40 mule deer bucks...the rut activity was crazy. Saw several really nice bucks, but thought we'd look around a bit. Ran into some other hunters from Laramie and chatted with them for a while.

The next day was a repeat of the first, lots of bucks, but we kept looking.

The third morning, I glassed up a whitetail buck and doe out in the sage. I put the spotting scope on them and Pat took a look. She said, "Yep, lets try for that one".

No sooner than she said that and both the buck and doe bedded with just the tops of the bucks antlers visible above the sage. We planned a stalk and off we went.

We cut the distance to about 240 yards rather quickly. Pat likes to get as close as possible, so we crawled through the sage brush and finally got to 136 yards. We waited for about 45 minutes and it was obvious the buck wasnt going to stand up anytime soon. Finally I decided to grunt at the buck and see if he would stand. Worked perfectly, he stood up broadside and Pat wasted no time. One shot with her 7-08 and 140 accubonds and that was it.

Only the second whitetail Pat has killed, with her first one being a spike.

Super buck! Congrats to Pat! I live in a 'whitetail' state and haven't seen one that nice this year. Well done.

PS- Does Bella bite deer?? ;)
