So we're in the local BWW last night, and watching one of the games out of the corner of my eye, I see the Braves getting crushed by the Yankees, and the tribe brings in this dude who looks like he's pitching batting practice. First batter tees one off, and the pitcher almost runs away in reaction. WTF? I'm thinking.. Dude does some Luis Tiant style, coughs up some runs, but retires the side without much more blood. And then sprints off the field like he no-hitted..

Come to find out, he's an outfielder, first time he's pitched IN HIS LIFE. It was actually pretty fun to watch.

Gotta love a manager that says FU to the bullpen and brings in a position player who's never pitched before (ever) to finish the game. If this were japan, the reliever Corp would be committing ritiualized suicide.

Its not an FU to the bullpen, its not wasting an outing from bullpen arms in a game they can't win.

I like the position players that ask to come pitch in those situations. I think it's great! Heck, I remember the year Jose Oquendo played on 9 positions in one season.

IIRC I don't think that guy topped 60mph! :D
