Having a bit of success this week, its coming to the end of the red deer rut, but i found this stag with his hinds, terrible weather at the time, strong wind and was lashing with rain just before i found him, they were lying down weathering the storm in the lee of the forest, all i could see was his antlers, then he decided to stand up, broadside shot at 170 yards off my sticks, on bullet impact he ran off with the hinds for about 70 yards and then keeled over, dead as a dodo.
They do look a little like your Elk.
Because of the rain i had to put the waterproof GoPro shroud on, therefore you can't hear my English 'tone'!
Click on the picture for video of downed stag.

Congratulations. The field looks a bit like a golf course, tree lined dog legged to the left. Two nice irons and you are dancing on the green.. I suppose that in actuality it is a hay field?

Well done DD.

I'm over your way at the moment trying to find a few deer. Shocking weather where we are and those red stags are being quite elusive as well as the roe bucks.

Keep at em.

Correct, its a hay field, or it was, they use it for silage now, but the deer love it when its starts to grow back,

Ah, i think i was told about your visit, (or have i got that wrong?) where are you hunting?
I agree the deer can be a bit elusive, unless you know where to find them that is!
In truth the roe bucks can be difficult to find after their rut in August, but the red stags give away their position as they can still be rutting, just listen for them roaring.

Cheers

DD, I haven't communicated with you about my hunt mate.
I've spent quite a lot of time on reds in a few places, I enjoy hunting them. Thanks
for the tips though.
Hind groups we are looking over don't have mature stags with them, my mate
believes everything is pretty much over but trail cameras are showing there are
still mature stags cruising around, no doubt looking for a late cycling hind.
Not ideal for roe bucks at all, with acorns all on the ground and some of the
older bucks casting. But we are hunting sika up near Dorset next then onto muntjac,
Chinese water deer and maybe a look at a fallow before we head home.

Best of luck on the remainder of your hunt, i can't believe you came down so close to where i hunt, i am the next county over.
I agree with your mate, rutting action is all but over.
Cheers

Nicely done once again, you are on a roll. I do appreciate your postings. What is you rig there?
Thank's, nothing special on the rifle, it's the same gun (minus moderator) i brought to Montana last year, Browning X-Bolt, 30-06, Schmidt and Bender 8x56, Wildcat T8 mod, Harris 9-13 bipod, 150 grain bullet.
Cheers
Richard
