Oregon gun law proposal...20 rounds/month

Folks in Oregon, do you know how the 20 round limit would be applied? For example, what if you reload? Does it mean 20 total or 20 per caliber? Just not sure how you could practice shooting with such a low amount without being able to reload...

Also the 5 round mag limit is suspect since a similar ban was struck down in New York.

Looking at the threads lately, must be gun law season!! Lol

How the 20 round limit would be applied is not explicitly stated in the legislation. It just states that, "A person may not receive more than 20 rounds of ammunition in any 30-day time period."

The legislation was written with/by high school kids. No Joke. And, I get it, kids in school are worried about their safety. I'm a teacher, I know what these kids are feeling. But this is NOT the way to go about it.

When did we decide high school kids were capable of determining rational, long term solutions to anything? The teenage prefrontal cortex is still developing so they are prone to impulsive decision making. Sounds like signaling to me.

If they want to take away our rights that's cool I guess but I'd at least prefer the dignity of having it done by peers.

When a select party pushed the Tide pods in front of the non biased media for the blitz... Same select party that promotes the cheapened proclamations of asylum to... well, future voters in both regards.

This stuff is all starting to happen in Washington (Seattle) as well. As stated on another thread, I have lived north of Seattle all my life aside from my military service but as an early retiree, a kid in college and a wife that is soon to be retiring.....As soon as I can become a puff of smoke I'm out of here (Spokane, WA or Coueur d'Alene Idaho).

And that’s why I am moving out of the PSROO ( people socialist republic of Oregon) as soon as my last kid is out of high school.

This makes because this year our public HS no longer allows king/ queen for proms. Must be “court persons” bacause it not gender nuetral. Even better the students cannot nominate the court. Only teachers. This keeps the “popular” kids from having an advantage. Because ,well, it’s not fair.

Kids have a reason to be afraid, and to want to do something about it. But gun control laws like this one are not it. It's like Fin has said, it's a cop out.

I think it's fair to say that A LOT of schools have some kids in attendance that are legitimately scary. I wish I could talk in more detail and provide specific examples from my school, but ethically and legally, I can't. But access to firearms isn't what makes these kids the unstable, frightening people that they are, it's their home lives. At my school, more and more kids are coming from pretty damn traumatic home lives. Then, take a kid who may be already prone to mental instability and give him a high dose of trauma at home, then you really have a recipe for disaster. Schools don't have the resources to make up for or overcome the problems that start at home. We don't have mental health professionals and support staff available to identify and actually help students who are struggling, and who might become a threat to the safety of the school. That would cost a lot of money, and people don't want to pay. So they propose laws to restrict the inanimate objects, instead of addressing the real problems. It's a cop out, but cop outs are easy.

Exactly! I too am counting the days when I can make my escape.

20 rounds? I'd have to buy a partial box of shotgun shells? Makes total sense.

Maybe the 20 rounds is rifle and handgun only? Apparently this is just the first iteration, but given how these laws normally follow I'm assuming the final draft won't be workable and/or constitutional.

I was looking for Oregonians' opinions here and it's pretty sad the reaction is "We're trying to leave Oregon" lol.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but the adults in this country sure as hell don't seem to be doing anything to try to protect them, so can you blame them for trying to do something themselves?
