Well I hated to end a once in a lifetime hunt on opening morning but I couldn’t pass up a Billy of this caliber. The hunt started with packing In and scouting 3 weeks before the season. It was a good scouting trip with several goats found. As I patiently waited for the season to start after that scouting trip August 31st came and we went in 7 miles for the Sept 1st opener. It snowed and the basin was socked in the night before but right before dark the fog lifted up enough to do a little spotting. Seen one Billy That night. As opening morning approached we woke up to a nice clear morning for spotting. Seen a couple of Billy’s one to far to go after. Spotted the one I killed and we headed up the basin to try and kill him. We bumped him and he snuck out underneath us. We dropped elevation quickly and got set up and I killed him at 510 yards. Where the goat died was a very hard task to get him out. It truly was a hunt of a lifetime jam packed in all of one day. I killed him and we were back to the truck by 7:00pm. Can’t thank the couple of buddies enough who endured this wonderful adventure with me.
