MT FWP decided give the local whitetail population a break for a season, and sent me a mule deer permit for my backyard.

I had fun keeping a running thread of my goat tag last year, so I thought I'd do the same this year with the deer tag. As long as health and not drawing a moose tag allows, I should be able to get a ton of scouting in this summer, and can hopefully keep this thread full of buck pictures.

Right after hearing I drew in April, I made a quick run out to a couple areas and started seeing the first signs of new growth of the year.

Bear season got in the way for most of May, but this weekend I finally got back out to start looking over more deer.

Horn growth has been good this month, and I was able to locate what looked like mature bucks with potential.

Not sure what this guy had going on, but he was a miserable bugger. He kept kicking at the growth and shaking his head-

I shot a buck in NE Montana about 8 years ago that had tumors like that all over it's face.

I took him by the fish and game office and they looked at it and said it was warts or something like that.

I ate him. So far so good.
