i have been told not to load them.all of the loads in my book show maximum loads for 35 whelen as compressed.how far off of max do i need to stay to not compress my loads. i usually test loads in .5 grain increments,i think max load was 62 gr where should i stop not to compress 61.5, 61, 60.5. what are the advandages of compressed loads. this is a semi auto rifle i am loading for and i know that does make some difference.

there is no harm in compressed loads with todays powder! now a semi-auto rifle may give some functioning problems if you choose a powder that is too slow or firearm abuse if using a powder that is too fast but don't worry about compressed loads unduly. which manuals are you using?

The Nosler or other loading manual that shows load density is probably the only way to tell, in advance, if the load will be compressed.

My .358 Win, by the way, loves a max and compressed load of IMR-4895 under a 200 gr Corelokt spitzer. I have to watch the loads, though, as the bullets want to back out far enough that they would contact the lands and possibly pull the bullet out if cycled through the action without firing.

I've never had any problems compressing. You might look at using a Mag primer. Back off 1st if your not using one now. My 308 load is compressed, does fine. I just want to know how Nosler gets 103% in the d&*n case to start with!!!!!!
