BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department is suspending further sales of deer hunting licenses because of an outbreak of a deer disease commonly known as EHD.

The department has been receiving reports of epizootic hemorrhagic disease deaths in the southwestern part of the state, and the 1,000 doe licenses still available will not be issued, according to Wildlife Chief Randy Kreil

It is showing up in Wisconsin also. In the same area that has been hit with CWD. I am sure that the die off in the Clark Fork around Missoula is EHD also.

Sad. I agree with troydave, I bet the die off in MT is also EHD.

northern perkins county in NW sd also quit selling the extra tags. sounds like it could be close to you Nemont. Bad deal

I applaud that state for suspending the tag sales. Montana is more concerned about the income vs the resource. Truth is stranger than fiction, but that's the truth.

Shoots,
agree with you. Look at the future ramifications versus short term income benefit. Doesn't hurt we are sitting on a $3 billion surplus either though...

They must have been able to get a grip on this issue.. I didn't notice/hear anything about it this year. From Dickinson.

EHD is not something that is controllable. It is completely dependent upon environmental factors.

Not quite following you! What do you mean by getting a grip on the issue? Are you talking about number of tags issued?

Sorry, should have elaborated. I know in North Dakota the last "outbreak" year was 2013. I have been reading up on the gnat/female midge that spreads this virus like wildfire and noticed they are taking precautions, trying to curb the breeding of these pests by planting more wetland vegetation, etc. Since it's now 2016, and I haven't heard in the last year that anyone was absolutely devastated by it I was wondering if G&F had gotten the upperhand.

No upper hand to be head, it all lies in mother natures hands, if the creeks run low and the stock dams are near empty and the first frost is late theres a chance of an outbreak. Theres always a chance but hopefully it doesn't happen, if it does you hope like hell its small and localized.
