NFL players not standing for national anthem

Huge fan of the NFL. Kneels make me more sad than mad, but pretty mad.

Players do not respect the opportunity they are given with their physical talent and an outlet to show it.

Kaerpernick is not in the picture now. The league and players both had the opportunity to support him and did not. The owners who did not hire Kaerpernick now want solidarity with their players. It is a joke.

Have actually tried to watch some NFL and find it distasteful. Will be a huge adjustment!

I respect Trump for his call for respect. We should all respect the anthem because we are Americans. I do not think the NFL players are disrespecting our veterans. The veterans fought for their right to protest. But, the NFL players also are NOT showing the respect the veterans deserve!

NFL may by severely hurt by this.

JWP58,

I agree in that the narrative directed towards law enforcement is large uninformed, and in some instances patently false. It does no good whatsoever for Colin Kaepernick to wear pig socks anymore than your blanket references to idiots. Neither is helpful in any way, but probably made both of you feel better.

I think hyper exposure to media is partially responsible for where we are at. The Tamir Rice shooting was tragic. So was the Philandro Castille shooting. However, the lack of prosecution was not a failure, it was a success of our legal system. I don't say this flippantly, and deeply respect the level of loss their families have experienced.

Ultimately, the bigger issue I see is there seems to be very little forward movement from either party. As disappointed as I was in Obama for how he handled racially charged issues, I think DJT is quite possibly worse.

I made a Facebook post awhile back and tagged a large number of people in it. I'll include anyone here who agrees with these morons in the NFL about "police violence".

Come do a ride along with me over the course of a few months. Once a week, twice a week, however long you feel is necessary.

Most of these players can't even articulate what or why they are protesting, probably because of mindless group think and "follow the leader", but also out of stupidity or ignorance.

Maybe I'm stupid and\or ignorant but Im just some white guy in Idaho so I have no idea if the greater US has areas with significant issues of racial Injustice. I know I'd prefer they find a way to protest that doesn't involve our country, flag or national anthem but they have a right to do so whether they get fired for doing so or not.
To demand they be silenced is merely one step away from fascism. Today we as a populis demand everybody stand at attention and holds their hand over their heart during the national anthem and tomorrow we demand that everyone's child marches in unison as the motorcade goes by.
The point is that standing at attention and holding my hand over my heart during the national anthem it's so powerful because we all do it voluntarily if we were forcing people to do it(whether by law or social pressure) it would be watered down crap and mean nothing.
What I do know is the right to free speech is one of the many things that have made this country great. Also you don't have to be right to have a right to free speech.
With that said I'd like to know why you think you are the enlightened one who knows what minority's across the country go through? Because honestly I don't know.

This is not a free speech issue, which has been documented multiple times by multiple posters in this thread. When on the clock, in uniform, representing a company, you do not have a right to free speech.

Go ask the now former CEO of CBS about her free speech on twitter.....

P.s. I know the DOJ and FBI crime stats pretty well, and if you're interested go read them for a few hours and you'll be enlightened as well.

Sure you do. This is up to the team/company they work for to decide, not you. It the team/company ownership doesn't have a problem with it its not up for you or DJT say how it should be handle.

You either have the right or you do not. If someone is deciding whether or not it's ok, it is not a right. It would be a privilege.

I suppose the NFL should revise it's own rules/regulations. Since they have pretty clear rules and regs concerning the national anthem. But I'm sure you knew that.

This is really too easy.

.
So you are saying the NFL has a problem with what the players are doing? Wants to fire them and cannot?
This is just one group of people trying to silence another groups free speech through social pressures.

You make no sense.

Post the rule and not the fake FB one.

No I'm saying they don't have a right to free speech in that specific situation.

The NFL may be ok with it. That however still doesn't mean it's a right, it's a privilege.

I don't suppose you would evoke "free speech" rights if it was a terrorist spewing hate during the anthem? It is a right after all correct? And rights can't be infringed upon even if you don't like the message.

Lol you seriously don't understand that simple fact?

I understand you don't understand what a private business can and can't do.

And BTW here is your NFL rule.

As President Donald Trump continues to chastise NFL players who kneel in protest during the national anthem before games, some football fans are wondering: Does the NFL league rulebook require players to stand for the anthem? A viral Facebook post referencing section a62 63 of the rulebook claims it does.

Before we verify or debunk that claim, it's important to know that NFL football games are governed by multiple codes of conduct. One is the NFL rulebook; another is the NFL game operations manual. The rulebook is concerned with in-game actions by players and coaches (like scoring, penalties, challenges and so on), whereas the game-operations manual dictates how NFL games should be run in the bigger-picture organizational sense.

"The league’s Game Operations Department uses the manual to govern the conduct of home clubs, to ensure they protect players and provide the conditions for a fair and fan-friendly contest," reads the NFL's website. "Clubs face warnings and other penalties for noncompliance."

The NFL rulebook makes no mention of the national anthem. But the game operations manual does.

Here's what the game operations manual says regarding the national anthem, according to an NFL spokesperson:

The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.

It's important to note the use of the word "may" here. The NFL is not considering punishing fines on players or teams who choose to kneel or stay in the locker room during the national anthem, the spokesperson says.

The NFL owns the stage not the voice. They undoubtedly have the power to remove the stage. The highest form of government pressuring the stage be removed is a free speech issue.
But the voice can still speak.

I'm out this one has hit bottom. I hope you are not really a leo with that attitude.

Also see and read the code of conduct, specifically the first two paragraphs.

Privilege, not a right.

Thank you for admitting the NFL reserve's the right to discipline players for their actions while representing the nfl. Meaning they don't have a right to free speech.

Thank you.

as someone who has gone forward and fought with the flag on my sleeve; i am far more offended by people trying to suppress any american's right to free speech, than i am about someone kneeling during the national anthem.

All the veteran's in this country volunteered, or were ordered, to go fight for their country in order to defend the constitution and the rights is affords all americans (free speech being one of them). I did not risk my life so we could force every american to stand for the national anthem.

All that being said, i would prefer they found another, and hopefully more effective way to have a positive impact on the issues in our society. It does annoy me. However, i will defend, to my last breath if neccesary, their right to do it. The poeple i am truely disgusted with in all of this, are those that use this as one more opportunity to try and sew the seeds of division in our country. They are the true enemy of what this country, our flag, and the national anthem stand for.

Just one man's opinion.....

this!!!!!!
