Well, my 25-7PRC build is about ready to come home so I'm back on my quarterbore bulls#!t with a new build in the works. This one will be a 25PRC built using:

• Tikka T3x action (naturally), factory cerakoted burnt bronze;
• 20" Sendero-contour, 1:7 twist Carbon Six barrel;
• Pure Precision Altitude stock in Alpine Camo;
• Pure Precision Tikka bottom metal;
• Mountain Tactical billet magazines;
• Talley Lightweight direct-mount rings;
• Hornady 6.5 PRC Match Grade dies;
• Hornady Match Grade die bushing (somewhere between .284 and .287 dia.);
• ADG 6.5 PRC brass;
• Some combination of 95gr./127gr. Hammer HHTs and 134gr. Hornady ELD-Ms; and
• Probably topped with a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 or Trijicon Credo 2.5-15x42. Already have the Credo on a similar setup but haven't shot it yet.

Goal is to build something on the light side ideal for (1) tight quarters in a treestand or shooting house back east or (2) packing up above timberline out west.

Any thoughts on my components combination? Anyone messed around with wildcats using neck bushings and any lessons you've learned that I should know before I start tinkering?

I’d go sendero lite contour to shave more weight. I’d also go with a Stockys vertical grip over the pure precision altitude stock. Had one and it over exaggerates muzzle rise because of butt pad positioning. UM rings over talleys is also something I’d do. You could spend the money on the aftermarket magazine or you could just use the long action magazine that will come with your action. They feed PRC cases just fine

As far as dies the 6.5 brass to 257 with bushing die will be a pretty simple process. Can probably get by with a single bushing.

I think you and I have talked about Stockys vs. Pure Precision before (or maybe that was someone else). The Pure Precisions fit me really well-- I have them on three other builds. I also really prefer the aluminum mags to the OEM plastic mags but I may be stuck with them, anyway-- MT says their current mags aren't ideal for the PRC but they'll be rolling out a new model this summer. If they aren't on the market, I'll stick with the OEM.

Haven't thought much on the Unknown Munitions over Talley. What makes those get your vote?

But are you using 6.5Prc brass or are you using 7PRC brass.
You started out calling it 25/7PRC
Then you have that your using 6.5Prc bushing dies.
A couple years ago when the 7PRC came out, I had a 6.5/7PRC built.
I'm using Redding bushing dies for 7PRC.
It outperforms my 264WM easily.
I can comfortably run 156gr Berger's at 3200fps.
A 25/7prc would be like a 257 Weatherby.

Two different rifles-- the build that is about to come home is a .25-7PRC. It is built heavy with a 24" Lilja barrel. Will be roughly the length of a Brown Bess musket once I top it with a suppressor. My plan for it is antelope, open country mule deer and ringing steel way out yonder. Hoping to be in the low-to-mid 3300s with the 127gr. Hammer HHT.

The build I'm talking about in this post will be a .25-6.5PRC, with the idea of it being a lightweight mountain/deerstand carbine.

I’ve had more than one set of talleys fail me so it’s just one more thing I don’t need to worry about. The UM rings are built much better The UM rings come with recoil pins which I think is a great thing vs the recoil being put just on the screws. UM rings weigh like 4oz a pair so not much of a difference between talleys for much more peace of mind for me.

Seconded on the UM rings. They’re beefy without being too weighty. Impressively built.

I’m on the Stocky’s train as well, but I do add a 3/4” chunk of HDPE between stock and butt pad (and swap out the provided pad) to get more LOP. My ape hangers and giraffe neck just don’t jive with the short LOP of the VGS.

+1 on the Creedo, but -1 if you go with the NF because MuleyFreak - but that’s just me. I’d toss out a Maven rs1.2 if FFP is your thing. I really like mine and it’s very similarly built to the Creedo, but has a better reticle.

If it were me, I’d skip the CF barrel for something closer to a #4 contour and some wicked looking fluting. I think it just looks cooler, and you can get it lighter.

No comment on the mags/bottom metal. I’ve had good results with the factory mags with the exception of my .223 which can sometimes not feed the second round. It’s annoying.

Pure Precision stock is already on the way because I’m a shameless fanboy. Carbon Six barrel as well because I caught them with one on their shelves that they couldn’t move, so got a pretty good discount.

The NF appeals to me because it is two inches shorter than the Trijicon and SFP, which seems ideal for a hunting rifle.

Good feedback on the UM. Another member is pretty big on the Sportsmatches. I’ll likely settle between those two (although I’ve had fine luck with Talleys on three other rifles and will be using their Tacticals on the 25-7).

Ditch all of that and buy a Remington Model Seven. Mine are way handier than any of my Tikkas.
