Three of us Wyoming/Antelope newbies are planning a hunt for fall of 2018. We are coming from Iowa and we were thinking of staying either in the Newcastle or Douglas areas. We each have I PP and are confused about which units to apply for. Unit 26 looks like it may be a good area based upon prior year success rates. We will be hunting public land. We are not against having to do some walking and are not really road hunters. Any opinions on Unit 26 or other suggestions would be great. thanks

Download onx on phone or get chip if u have a garmin your gonna need it. Welcome to the board

Thanks guys. I am planning on getting a Garmin and an OnX chip prior to the trip. I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience in Unit 26. Also is there a certain model of Garmin that is better than others for this application?

If you do what the guys above say and hit public land goat's are a dime a dozen in WY. It's the easiest hunt you will ever do in my opinion. I've done it three times and have yet to hunt past lunchtime on the first day and killed decent lopes.

I find paper maps to be helpful too. I highlight the unit boundaries and mark all the accessible public land on them. Then use the chip once out there and on foot. The reality is anything you can draw with 1PP will have limited access, but if you look at the units you should be able to find some with enough access to get it done.
