I'm new to this game and October will be my first antelope hunt in Wyoming. Is army field jacket (woodland) camo ok for antelope hunting, or should I buy some new camo, or doesn't it matter? thanks...

I wouldn't worry about it. If you have the disposable funds to upgrade camo, go for it. If not, I wouldn't sweat it at all. I hunt antelope (and all critters) in solid earth tone pants exclusively, and probably have an earth tone solid top on ~50% of the time. No appreciable difference in success with or without camo. Good luck!

Camo is more in the eye of the buyer than the game, IMO. I remember Fred Bear's advice on the topic: The best camo in the world is get down and stay still.

The guys above are correct. My buddy brought out his dark mossy oak camp jacket last year and he stuck out like a sore thumb. Nothing out there is that dark green or brown. It was much harder to see him when he had his brown carhart on though.

Antelope have great eyesight. You will be using terrain to get close anyway so you could wear Anything you want.

Ditto the stuff above. Eastern guys are used to close quarters with ultra spooky whitetails so camo is more important. Debatable as to how important but more important than in the west. Thw woodland pattern will be very dark compared to the surrounding though. If you want to go cheap go with surplus stuff in desert camo. An upgrade to that would be natural gear camo. As mentioned earlier, carhart may be as good as anything for pronghorn. And like it has already been mentioned, any earth toned clothes will be fine because they will see you if you are not hidden behind a hill.

A guy once laughed and told me, "only easterners care about caliber and camouflage."

Just make sure it's warm enough and breaks wind, color is not much of a concern for the camo.
Good luck on the antelope hunt.

You are also required to wear orange for the Wyoming rifle season. I know they say that animals don't see orange but take a black and white photo wearing some and see how bright it is compared to everything else. With all that orange on the camo become a mute point.
