New to CO, archery or first rifle?

I'm looking at hunting September archery or first rifle. I'm debating archery (less pressure, warmer weather) and first rifle (rifle obviously easier but more pressure). I'm new to hunting the state and I really can't decide which season to chase em. I am backpack hunting. Looking for advice, thanks.

I'd go with archery since that's the next available season. 1st rifle tags are draw only and the deadline has past.

Nearly half the state is over the counter first rifle, am I wrong? I am looking at hunting 75/751

1st rifle is draw only. There may be some leftovers. Probably not though.

But you can get an OTC Archery bull tag and then pick up a left over cow tag for one of the rifle seasons.

As others have said.....1st rifle is draw only. Archery and 2nd rifle are OTC.

True, but a NR would spend 600 for the archery and then 450 for the cow tag. $1050 plus out the door....

I guess I was just looking at it from the resident perspective. Now that I am a resident, this is my plan for years that I am in need of filling the freezer.

Get a OTC archery cow tag, put in for limited draw and buy a 2nd or 3rd season OTC bull tag if you don't draw. This will give you preference points and two elk tags. Get a copy of the Big Game Regulations and read it fromt to back. Then read it again!
