My son Nash earned straight A’s all year last year and as a reward we applied for antelope in WY. He just turned 12 last month so he didn’t have any pts and I only had a couple. We picked a unit with ok draw odds but not a lot of public.
The bucks were skittish for sure. After trying unsuccessfully to get within 350 yds all day we glassed up a group way out there. We used an old irrigation ditch as cover and cut a mile off the distance. The buck did what bucks do and decided to go on a runabout, in the process he caught a glimpse of us hiding in the tall grass and came within 150 yds to check us out. He stopped to look and Nash made a perfect quartering towards shot. We hadn’t had anytime to look him over so we had no idea what kind of buck he might be, but he surely didn’t disappoint. Total opposite of ground shrinkage.
The next morning Nash let dad get in on the action. My shot wasn’t as perfect and my goat wasn’t as big but we managed to go 2 for 2.
