Our oldest, Nathaniel connected on his first elk tonight!
8" of fresh snow, perfect conditions, we spotted a few elk about half a mile away. We snuck up to 150 yards and got set up for the shot. They had no idea we were on them.
He was on his shooting sticks, waiting for the cow to feed into the open.....she stepped into the clear....his 270 WSM cracked and down she went.
A fat prime cow and one happy young man.
After the shot, elk kept popping out of the brush and they simply watched us at about 200 yards. I sure wish my younger son was with us tonight. His tag likely would have been punched.
We get the 4runner about 1/2 mile away and get the pack and sled and get to her.
Nathaniel punches the tag with a gleam in his eye.
We break her down into quarters and get them to the sled.
The kid is really getting handy, he's strong as a mule.
Yah mule!
I'm sure proud of him.
